About PrayForTrey.org
Trey is a twenty-year-old sophomore at the University of Georgia.
He joined the Sigma Chi fraternity in the fall of 2010 (as a fourth generation Sigma Chi at UGA).
He's enjoying campus life in Athens and looking forward to graduating with a degree in business administration.
Trey's also dividing his time between trips back-and-forth to M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston, Texas.
Trey was originally diagnosed with Melanoma (Stage 3) as a freshman in high school, April 2007.
He endured a couple of surgeries and treatment for a year.
The expectation was that he would be cancer-free when he began his senior year of high school.
However, his cancer relapsed in June 2010, and had progressed to Stage 4 Melanoma.
Trey began a new cancer treatment in Germany.
During a five-month period, Trey and his family would shuttle back-and-forth from Atlanta and Germany four times.
The intent of this unique treatment was to remove proteins from his blood to allow his own body to attack the cancer more effectively.
Though the treatment seemed to slow the progression of his cancer, in February 2010 they discovered that Trey's cancer had metastasized to his brain.
Trey then sought medical care at M.D. Anderson.
His treatment began with brain surgery.
Gamma Knife brain radiation would follow--three times over the next eight months.
Conventional melanoma treatment was administered, and then ultimately in June 2010 Trey was approved for a clinical trial under the care of Dr. Patrick Hwu.
The treatment began by harvesting T-cells from Trey's tumors and growing millions of cells from them.
The new T-cells were then returned to his body where they are beginning to fight his cancer cells.
Results from the new clinical trial are encouraging.
Since October of 2010, a series of CT scans and brain MRIs have shown that all tumors in his body are shrinking.
Trey is a remarkable young man and a great inspiration to those around him.
He has demonstrated courage, strength, and a positive attitude despite very difficult circumstances.
He has lived his life as normally as possible during his trials.
As an example, Trey played high school football between treatments during his senior year and has given some incredible
testimonies of his cancer journey and faith to others throughout.
We pray that Trey continues to see progress and is ultimately healed.
We appreciate your support, prayers, and interest in Trey's story.
